A story like “There Will Come Soft Rains” leaves you with goose bumps, while also wishing for more. This short story expressed the idea that there is a very real chance that technology will outlive us, until it leads to its own demise. Following a war or some sort of catastrophic event that wiped out an entire community, a house built dependent on technology was the only thing left standing. There were hints of the family that once lived there, such as meals being prepared throughout the day, also the devastating imprint surrounded by ash on the side of their house, an image of their last moments together before a fatal distaster. This story chilled me to my core, while questioning our society’s dependency on technology, and where it will lead us to in the future.
